Three Advanced Technological Safety Features That Could Help Prevent An Auto Accident

by George Mason

Every year, about 1.3 million people die each year in automotive accidents. It is not uncommon to have been in an accident or know someone who has been. Operating these heavy pieces of machinery can be downright dangerous. Add in bad road conditions and you have a recipe for disaster. Fortunately, technology continues to make automobiles safer. In fact, driver-assist systems save an average of 10,000 lives in the United States each year. Whether you are a new driver or have been driving for decades, these driver-assist systems can be a huge help in making the driving experience much safer for everyone on the road. Here are some of the safety features to look for in a vehicle.

Surround View Cameras

While it is not uncommon to see a vehicle with a rear camera, nowadays you can actually get surround view cameras that allow you to view all around your vehicle. This makes it much easier to switch lanes without worrying who may be in your blind spot or when you are parking in a tight spot with cars around you. Those dings from pulling into a tight space and bumping up against another car may be over thanks ot the surround view camera. This includes four cameras with one on each side of the vehicle to help you see around the automobile. The cameras usually work only when moving under the speeds of 5 to 7 mph.

Night Vision Systems

For those who tend to drive a lot at night, the night vision system will be a huge help in preventing an auto accident. The risk of getting in an accident is four times greater at night than it is in the daytime. Being able to see better at night will greatly reduce your chance of getting into an accident. The night vision system provides an extra layer of brightness using infrared technology so you are able to see other vehicles, pedestrians, and the road much better. The sensor sits right above the grill allowing you to view the road much better.

Lane Departure Warning

Driving long distances can definitely be tiring on a driver. Getting behind the wheel when you are tired can be very dangerous. To help avoid collisions, lane departure warnings are now being installed on many vehicles. This system is designed to help alert the driver when the car is moving out of the lane. Some systems will even go to the extent of moving the vehicle back in the lane if it feels any drifting. This can help you avoid collisions with other vehicles and accidents off the road.
